Anja Hertle
Mosiacs
Anja has been a maker of colourful stuff since birth, playing with colour, pattern and texture. After a childhood in Germany, a background in interior design and working in acrylics on floor cloth and furniture for many years, her love for mosaics was awakened and she has been hooked on this expressive medium for nearly…
Working with pieces of other people’s lives in the form of broken china, pottery, porcelain figurines and tile left over from a tiling project, is very satisfying as she is giving these elements a second life in her whimsical mosaic art pieces and keeping loads of materials out of the landfill. She also incorporates forks, beads, buttons, bottle caps and type writer keys, which make her a borderline hoarder, but also an environmentally engaged artist.
She particularly enjoys creating artwork which evokes a special memory, be it her client’s family home, farm or cottage, incorporating some of their family’s fine china or everyday dishes, something most people have a deep connection to.
She shares her passion during workshops in her studio, through visiting local schools as an artist in residence, in galleries and at shows. Please visit her website for upcoming workshops and current showings of my work. Commissions are always welcome.
