Betsy Miller

expressionist art

Originally from Montreal, after working for some time in the banking industry, I decided to pursue my life-long passion for design and colour.

Following completion of the Fine Arts Certificate program in 2010 at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, I began to develop my unique expressionistic painting style. Based in my Cobourg studio since 2011, I specialize in highly original textured work in acrylic on canvas and wood.

For my contemporary palette knife pieces, paint is mixed and applied on the canvas using large palette knives, allowing the piece to take form via a variety of scraping and layering techniques. Often liquid acrylic paint is also dripped on the canvas creating more texture and depth.

No plan is made or reference is used. My work continues to evolve in exciting new directions.

My inspiration comes from many expressionists painters such as Joan Mitchell, Richter Gerhard, Jackson Pollock to name a few.

My paintings can be viewed and purchased at my home gallery by appointment.

My work has been accepted into many juried gallery shows, and I contribute artwork regularly to local charities.

For Summer Rhapsody 2017, my art sale fundraiser, 25% of all sales was donated to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation for life saving equipment…$3,000 was raised.

For Summer Rhapsody 2018, 20% more than 2017 was raised.
