Ixchel Suarez is a textile and fibre artist for over 40 years. Her practice explores materials in reference to the concept of TIME, particularly in Tapestry. Her integration of Abstract Expressionism with Tapestry has been Internationally recognized.
Ixchel was born in Mexico City, developed an international practice and moved to Canada 20 years ago after living in Europe several times. She founded Oakville Arts Studio and the not-for-profit Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre. She has been a recipient of Visual Arts Grants from the CCA, OAC, Oakville Arts Council, OTF, among many. Her exhibition history is extensive. Her work is in private and public collections in Europe, Central, and North America. Her explorations in Nature and Time have been a particular interest in her practice. Her work got the Award of Excellence at the recent Beijing Biennale in 2021.
